I bet you can't guess my most used accomplishment in my fitness career, because it's not a feat of strength or anything that would typically be deemed "special". It's a simple ability everyone takes for granted until they can't do it anymore.... It is being able to get off the ground. Your ability to get up off the ground directly corresponds with your life expectancy. Everyone has heard and laughed at "I've fallen and I can't get up" but it's a real thing.
The inability to get off the ground when your older has negative consequences. I've always been able to get off the ground, but this was a new accomplishment! Getting off the ground with opposite hand touching opposite thigh the whole time. Basically pistol squatting, which is something I've been working on! I didn't start out being able to just get up no problem using only one leg, it happened in steps. You can try it too!
First lay flat on the ground and get up using whatever you have a couple times, try starting on your back, your stomach, or different positions. Once that is easy/doable, move on to trying to get up not using one of your arms; eventually taking away a leg, or even both arms, or your knees. There are millions of ways to tweak getting off the ground and practice different methods. Trying to come up with an original way to stand overtime makes it more interesting (and harder;)).
Getting off the ground sounds like it isn't a big deal or a good workout; but try doing it 10 different ways in a row while taking away different body parts or adding speed to it. You'll find it much harder than you originally expected!
