Just because something was once true doesn't mean it is always true.
Things can change by your efforts to bring about change or change with no effort, simply by not caring anymore and the passing of time... everything changes.
Whether it's a positive or negative change is up to you and is directly influenced by the decisions you make.. even though you might not notice the gradual process or even that you are making decisions.
Eventually you "wake up" one day and realize "hey I've accomplished something, I never thought I'd make it this far!" Or maybe "how'd I manage to get this far off track?". Where you are might not be where you ever intended on being or it might be a huge accomplishment and exactly your intent. This can be applied to where you are in your life or maybe even, shockingly enough.... exercising.
Gradual change in the negative is more common than positive, in my experience anyway. It's really easy to just not try and give up, that's the easiest thing to do. You try so hard for so long but don't see the results you want, so why bother? Even if it's not a conscious decision, everyone has had that thought at least once during their lifetime.
Positive gradual change usually comes about by consistency and effort. You don't just wake up one day where you want to be (usually, unless you're just an incredibly fortunate person) without putting the effort in to get there.
You might not even notice a change is occurring, it just happens and you're as surprised as everyone else. Whether it's a good change, like a relationship improving or a bad change like maybe realizing a relationship doesn't have the same closeness it once had.
So, how does all that apply to exercising? Because, you know everything in life does! Making decisions to improve your health is the only way it improves. Whether it's making an effort to workout or just take the stairs instead of the elevator. I'm not saying go run 5miles or immediately workout every day, maybe just starting out with walking more than just to and from your car.
The results might take a while, but it will surprise you. Not too much though, because this prepared you and you made decisions to make it happen ;)
